How Dash and Albert Create Timeless Patterns?
This is a question every Dash and Albert patron is curious to know since we have been a source of joy for homes all across the continent and beyond. Just like our designs, our design process is equally unique.
From pattern designing, material selection to dyeing, weaving and more, our rugs are perfectly handcrafted by fine and skilled artisans in India through traditional methods and practices.
Design Process of Dash and Albert Rugs
Designing and planning: The design team at Dash and Albert first creates designs that appeal to the customers. The creative heads choose different patterns, colors and suitable methods of construction for the rug. The material selection and deciding the pile height are also part of designing and planning.
All the information is then translated into a final design in Photoshop or InDesign and sent to India. The sample piece is received almost 30-45 days later.
Dyeing the material: When the sample piece is finalised, the actual creating process begins with dyeing the fibres in selected shades.
Weaving- centre of creation: Weaving is the heart and soul of the rugs. Skilled artisans use the chosen technique and materials to create masterpieces. Precise craftsmanship can be seen in each and every Dash and Albert rug product. It is an extensive process; for instance, it takes about 124 hours for 4 artisans to hand-knot one 10’×14’ wool rug.
Fixing flaws (trimming and clipping): If there are any inconsistencies in the rugs, such as loose knots or threads, they are fixed by skilled weavers through trimming and clipping to give a more refined look. The uneven pile height is also adjusted.
Finishing touches and quality check: The finishing touches include cutting the frayed edges and then binding them by hand. Then a thorough quality inspection takes place for the finished products.

It is a synthetic thermoplastic polymer which feels comfortable underfoot and is easy to clean since polypropylene rugs are scrubbable, hoseable, and bleachable.

Techniques used to create Dash and Albert rugs
Flatweave: Most Dash and Albert cotton, polypropylene, jute, and PET rugs and runners are made with the flatweave technique. Flatweave is the oldest traditional rug-making method. It is basically interlacing warp (vertical) and weft (horizontal) threads by hand.
Micro-hook: Dash and Albert wool rugs are mostly made through micro-hooking. It is the most traditional technique of rug making. It is a fine and detailed process where yarn is woven using a small hook. It is used to create intricate designs.
Hand-knot: Dash and Albert’s wool rugs are made using the hand-knot technique. Artisans tie yarn around warp threads to form knots, secured by weft threads.
Tufting: Dash and Albert have a collection of tufted rugs. It involves inserting yarn on a rug pad through a tuft gun or punch needle.
